Best Of’s – Football’s Mount Rushmore For Each Position
A while back I wrote an article for each State’s Mount Rushmore for the 21st Century. It sparked a lot of reaction and intelligent debate, which is the goal of any article. And I’ll be honest, it was fun to compile.
So, with the NFL season (hopefully) just around the corner, I decided to compile another Mount Rushmore, focusing on, you got it, the NFL. This Mount Rushmore covers every position in football, along with a few other categories. Note – This is focused on pro football only.
Shameless plug – Check out the Mount Rushmore for BASEBALL positions and Mount Rushmore for BASKETBALL positions I’ve also done!

must be a packer fan doing this….Rodgers over Brees, or ANY of the honorable mentioned guys…seriously? And Adrian Peterson over Emmitt Smith…look at the numbers and superbowl wins….and everything else..i would take LT or Faulk over AP!
Thanks for reading, and thanks for the feedback.
I am expecting a lot of comments regarding Rodgers being in the top 4. My justification is – he’s a 2-time MVP, 1-time Super Bowl MVP, has a freakish 364-84 TD to INT Ratio, and he has the highest Passer Rating in NFL history. I feel good about the choice.
And I thought Peterson over Smith was a no-brainer. My opinion, Emmitt is one of the more over-rated players in history. He was good, sure, but that team was loaded on offense, and he was gaining all of those yards behind arguably the best offensive line EVER.
And full disclosure – I despise the Vikings…and I still thought Peterson belonged on the list. His stats (often times on a bad team) are simply too good to leave him off.
What about Pat McAfee for punter. Manning slapped him on the ass in a casino while he was playing roulette. He bet the house on 18 and took it down!
That story itself should have gotten him included!
Biggest omission that comes to mind is Steve Largent. Needs to be at least among the honorable mentions at WR, and I’d have him in my top 4. Don’t forget, when he retired he held *all* of the major receiving records.
That said, I realize this was a difficult task, and overall you did a fine job.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for the positive feedback. It was a fun, and very challenging list!
I went back and forth about Largent. I don’t feel he was good enough to be in the top 4, but he could have been Honorable Mention. It was between him and Owens (who I despise). Ultimately I felt Owens had a better career. Like so many other positions, there were so many deserving players that couldn’t make the list.

Mel Blount has to be on Mt Rushmore and not honorable mention they changed the rules because of him and no Troy Palamalu is an atrocity
Thanks for reading, and thanks for the feedback. I did have Blount on the Honorable Mentions, but like so many other categories, who could I have bumped off the top 4 to include him? Same with Polamalu. Great, great player, but who could be bumped?
